Frank Curreri

2018 Speaker

Frank Curreri is a world-class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, pro journalist and philosopher who obsessively studies human psychology, age defiance and peak performance. The University of Maryland graduate has (conservative estimate) interviewed north of 20,000 people and his works or commentary have been featured by the likes of CNN.com, MSNBC, FOX News, USAToday.com, Bleacher Report and numerous magazines. Although more of a forensic investigator of people than a journalist at heart, Frank is a former staffwriter for the largest daily newspapers in Nevada and Utah, held an online Managing Editor position at FOX5 News in Las Vegas, and for five years was a globe-trotting correspondent for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (giving him a front-row seat to an epic corporate comeback story that saw the once-beleaguered company rise from virtual life support to $4.2 billion international juggernaut).

A competitive athlete for the past 31 years, Frank is a three-time IBJJF Masters World Champion and winner of more than 200 matches in wrestling, jiu-jitsu and submission grappling tournaments. He lives in Las Vegas, Nev., — the Fight Capital of the World — and has repeatedly trained and sparred with many of the world’s top UFC fighters and elite jiu-jitsu champions. He writes and blogs regularly about this skyrocketing Spartan Life, affectionately known as“The Hurt Biz,” exploring the zen, deep philosophies and life lessons that are often reinforced while rolling around on gym mats trying to legally and consentually chokeout equally determined teammates hungry to push past their comfort zones.

In part due to his martial arts addiction and extensive history of injuries — and the fact that so many of the elite fighters he interviewed kept repeating the “Fighting is 90 Percent Mental” mantra — one of Frank’s favorite topics is Wo(Man) vs. Pain, specifically how to redefine pain in our brains so that we may ultimately conquer it or at the very least better manage pain (what he calls “MindJitsu.”).
